PostSubject: The Marsh of Madness   Fri Jul 12, 2013 1:44 am

First topic message reminder :

The sun was shining above the murky marshes, in which cattails were wildly growing, giving the region its name. The fog was drifting over the tiny pools of water, which were almost completely still, save for the movements of a few Pokémon in them.
Between the marsh's many reeds, another fog seeped into the area.
But this fog was different. It was purple and it seemed to have eyes.
The fog in question was William the Gastly, who had decided to go on a mission to rid these swamps from a Swanna, that was trying to destroy the resident Poison type's habitat.
In a way, they were his brothers. William wasn't allowed to fail.

Acro listened to the ghastly speak of how the place appeared at night, he wanted to see what the ghastly was talking about but his dislike of water overruled seeing something he could easily see a painting of above ground. The Archen tried to shake his feathers, but only ended up splashing water everywhere. He was going to comment on his disliking of water once more, but a blast of water missed him by a narrow inch to the side of his head as the shellos that had thought to have been asleep attempted to attack the Archen with Water Pulse. Acro turned to face the pokemon in surprise, to see that it didn't look happy.

"Oh negativity....I completely forgot about that guy! I guess we aren't done with this place after all..."
Of course it wasn't over yet. That would have been too easy. No, there just had to be another obstacle in the path of William and Acro. Since the Gastly was running out of negativity to use for a Shadow Ball, he decided in favour of a more direct approach. Trying to get closer to the severely annoyed Water type, he attempted a charge into it.

The shellos growled before spitting mud at the ghastly to try and blind it, using Mud Sport.
Acro had set up another Double Team and was attempting to use Ancient Power, which was not working out too well since there was not many rocks in the area. A few small rocks shot out of the water and launched themselves at the Shellos, which had blasted some of them away with a simple Mud Sport. The shellos then launched a Water Pulse towards the Ghastly, attempting to take it out first since it thought it would probably take out the Archen with ease later on.

While the Mud Sport was easily evaded with the Gastly's ability of Levitate, the Water Pulse proved to be a more serious problem. Not being able to evade it that easily, it grazed William, who, while resisting the confusion, lost a considerable bit of momentum, noticeably weakening his impact on the enemy.
As the Shellos recovered from the attack, it tried to take the risk, focussing its deepest energies into an orb of energy, which it launched at the Gastly, dealing moderate damage. From what William could determine, the move was the Hidden Power (Steel).
The Gastly himself focussed and concentrated the gases within his own body, releasing them in the Shellos's direction as a cloud of Smog.

The blue Shellos was struck with the attack. It screamed in pain and glared at the ghastly, it was about to attack, but Acro had rushed towards it and struck its back with Iron Tail. Acro was surprised when a strange purple ooze came out, he retreated quickly in fear of the ooze being toxic and poisoning him once more.
The Shellos focused its powers once more, creating two grey orbs in front of it and launching each at each pokemon, though the attack was weaker because the blue creature had trouble focusing on two orbs at once. Acro was struck by the attack, being launched off of his high ground and into a deeper pond which he managed to splash his way out of, finding an item while he was under water though.

While William managed to dodge the grey orb, he now had a descision to make. Of course there was the Shellos to battle, but if he was not mistaken, he saw Acro fly into a rather deep pool of water. Acro was not a Pokémon too capable of swimming, so the danger of drowning was a possibility. Too dangerous of a possibility to go unchecked. But just as William was about to turn his back to the Shellos in an attempt to save Acro, he saw the prehistoric bird drag himself on semi-dry land again. That descision had been made already apparently. Now the Gastly could take care of his adversary again. Using the fear and worry, that had accumulated during this short phase of uncertainty, another Shadow Ball was formed to be launched at the Shellos.

The Shellos was struck with the shadow ball, giving a screech of pain and uselessly releasing more of its purple ooze because of the pokemon's instincts. It fell into a deep pool and didn't seem to come back up, was it swimming around under there or was it down for the count?
Acro panted as he looked at the item he had grabbed, a Totter Seed. He knew the effects of this seed from a previous experience as a hatchling. His mother had brought him a strange seed to eat when he was hungry one day, and he had only just swallowed it when the seed took effect and confused him. He had nearly fallen out of the nest that time, but fate had decided that his fall would take place at a later date.
The Archen was enveloped in a purple aura as he once again used Ancient Power, feeling himself grow more powerful with the attack as he collected the rocks from earlier and launched them at the Shellos once more.

While the Shellos seemingly had been defeated, William wanted to make sure and the windstill environment provided the ideal conditions for it. Using his powers as a Poison type, the Gastly created a cover of purple Smog over the pond the Shellos had landed in but nowhere else. Should it try to reemerge, it wouldn't be easy for it to get out of the cloud of toxic gas as well. As long as none of the other outlaws decided to suddenly get up again as well, the duo should be done here.

Acro watched as his rocks splashed into the water to attack the Shellos. He would have felt guilty for attacking a downed pokemon, but the Shellos had resurfaced and was struck by the Smog. It seemed to have been able to resist it enough to stay awake, but the rocks crashed down on the Shellos, knocking it out long enough for them to leave and collect the reward hopefully.
The prehistoric Archen huffed in annoyance as he watched the rocks sink and realized that the fog had returned to the area. He began to wonder just how the Swanna would even be able to Defog the entire area for good. Didn't this place generate the fog as fast as it cleared out?

"So...I guess we can leave here now. Or can you think of anything we might have forgotten to do?", William asked his feathered friend. They had defeated a dangerous foe today. After it would have gotten rid of the fog, it might have started to drain all the water or to completely flood the area. And both resulting areas wouldn't be too habitable for most Poison types. While William would have liked to stay in the area for longer, both the possibility of the enemies waking up again and Acro's obvious loathing of the area kept him from trying to change the Archen's mind.

Then all of a sudden the swanna woke up and began to kill everything
"Not really, I just hope we taught the Swanna a lesson to not change things that don't need changing. I wonder what would have happened if it had somehow succeeded and cleared this entire place of fog? Where would the poison types live? What really bugs me is why the Foongus was helping it, isn't Foongus a poison pokemon?"
Acro realized that he had been rambling once more. He shut his beak and hoped that the ghastly wasn't annoyed with the Archen at the moment. Acro wasn't rushing the Ghastly since he seemed to like it here and Acro didn't want to ruin the Ghastly's day, was the pokemon even enjoying this though?

But William was already dead, so he said: "Nah, bro, don't care. You fail." and killed everything again.

"Well...Foongus still are primary Grass types and usually reside in forests and the like. For one to be out here isn't that common. They wouldn't have trouble finding a new habitat. And of course there are the Pokémon, who don't act as the majority of their species do. But since there is nothing left to do here, I guess we should get going now."
Finally their mission seemed to be over. Even after a few setbacks all threats had been eliminated. Now the only things, that were left to do were for the police to take the outlaws in and for the duo to hand in their mission.

"This place is weird..."Acro concluded, "The world is weird and I doubt we'll ever make sense of it, but it's what makes it fun right?"
The Archen smiled, he liked the surprise and wonders. He hated being too weak to see some of the surprises and wonders though. He had a joy ribbon, and was feeling a significant increase of strength since he had found it. He looked up at the sky in attempt to see the sun, but the fog was too thick and the time couldn't be estimated without the sun. It was still slightly bright though, meaning it was still day, Acro gained a shiver from the eerie feeling the place gave. How could a place so seemingly beautiful at night be so creepy at day?

"It certainly is. But I wouldn't say, that it's the weirdness, that makes the world beautiful. It's rather the ability to slowly lift the cover of weirdness and find the hidden logic and structure within. I wonder, whether there could and will be a being, that would understand everything completely and thoroughly. And would that being like its state or not? After all, there would be nothing left for it to learn..."
From the colour, that the sunlight created in the thick fog, William estimated the current time to be very early evening. The two of them should go now, or they might unnecessarily wake up someone at the guild. And while William was a being of the night, that wasn't something he wanted to do.

"Are you talking about Uxie or Arcues?"
"Yeah...well, we should get going."
Acro nodded as if he understood, when in fact the ghastly had lost the bird brain long ago. Acro began to walk, the way they had came, they weren't too far into the dungeon luckily. Since the pokemon had appeared rather quickly. Acro had noticed that the quagsire was gone on the way back, it had probably wandered off in search of something to eat. The bird began to grow hungry himself, and returned to the guild, to finish the day off with a nice large dinner.
