Hiding from the Storm Empty
PostSubject: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 8:01 am

To be truthful, Peter thought that he would never come here. But, here he was. Standing just outside the mouth of Serene Cave.

The Chimchar stared into the depth of the dark cave as it sent waves of chills down his spine. No one said that the cave was dark! After feuds with his father, Peter finally decided that today was the day.

Or was it?

He suddenly started to doubt this choice. What if it was the wrong one? What if he was lost in the cave for days!? There was stories of Pokemon who was lost there for days!

Peter gulped as he turned around to a path that headed back to Rainfront Town. He should head back, his father would be worried sick. Then again, since when did he ever worry? No, he should just take the long way around. It may take four days, but it would be better than getting lost in the dark with who knows what.

Then, Peter realized that there was a huge shadow looming over him.

As he looked up, he saw a huge grey blur in the sky, no doubt a storm. Great Arceus.

Peter groaned out loudly as he faced the cave again as he slowly began to walk into the mouth. His tail shone against the dark moist walls as he ventured deeper, and his steps became slower. He could hear the wind picking up and flying into the cave's mouth, making a loud sound.

That only made the Chimchar even more scared.

Hiding from the Storm Empty

Mordred groaned, holding his side. A small drop of crimson fell from his hand and onto the cold, hard floor. He removed his hand from the injury, inspecting it. Four punctures adorned the light skin, fresh and still bleeding. Although they were just bite marks, they still had the faint tinge of fading energy from them. Leech Life was not a light-hearted attack.

The Scraggy leaned on the hard, rocky wall, deciding to take a break. He'd been circling the dark cave for hours, ending up lost each time. His body was covered in scratches and small bite marks from the many bat pokemon that resided in the cave, to which he had awakened due to his carelessness. His feet ached from trying to use Low Kick on a number of Diglett, only to have them scurry back underground and leaving his foot to collide with the rough floor. Needless to say, it was painful and made him limp for a few minutes.

Mordred scanned the area around him, making sure no other predators were nearby. After all the battles he'd fought in his time here, he was dying for some peace. He didn't expect the Cave to be so harsh, especially with the comforting chill it welcomed him with when he first arrived. He was so, so wrong.

He could hear the faint sound of lightning just beyond the rock wall he leaned on, and the soft pitter patter of rain slowly turning into a drenching storm. He let out a sigh, finding at least one reason to be glad that he was stranded there.

'This was definitely not how I expected my training to be.' He thought silently as he watched small drops of water leak from the gaps of the stone ceiling, falling gracefully down onto the hard floor nearby him. Not much of a show, but he really didn't have much of a choice at his state. All he had to entertain him now was the calming rain outside, and the soft droplets of water.

Well, being a fire type wasn't so bad...

Okay, I lied, it's horrible.

Peter had never been so scared in his life. The shadows that his tail made just pops out of nowhere and startles Peter. Although he had a bit of light, it wasn't enough. Peter found himself shaking although his tail gave him warmth. It was fear, he thought. Definitely fear. Although he just came into the Arceus forbid cave, it felt like half an hour already. He just had to make sure he didn't get lost...

Don't get lost,
Don't get lost...

The holler of the wind grew and made Peter wince. Then, it slowly died down. The deeper Peter ventured in, he discovered that the quieter the wind became. Peter stopped and glanced back from where he came from. He could still hear the rain echoing through the cave, it was somehow more peaceful. Peter's eyes soon got used to the darkness, but he could only see the blur of darkness...

And right there in that spot, he realized he was lost.

Peter swore he skipped a heart beat when he thought of that. Which paths did he take? What did the rocks look like back over there? Peter found himself shaking even more.

Mordred's eyes remained closed, taking in the melody of his surroundings as he rested. There wasn't a single interruption as nature continued to play its soothing notes, allowing the exhausted Scraggy to finally have slumber creep into his mind. His body slumped, falling onto a sitting position as his back remained leaning on the hard wall.

A small yawn escaped the tired explorer, finding it hard to stay conscious. He opened his eyes by just a small crack, finding his vision blurry. 'Tired... No... Can't sleep... Too... Dangerous...' His conscience screamed as it tried to keep him from falling asleep, but his body had other plans.

It wasn't until the sound of footsteps that the Scraggy's eyes finally opened completely. But even with his eyes wide and alert, he still felt exhaustion and couldn't bring himself to stand or even move from his oddly comfortable position. He groggily turned his head, seeing a faint light coming closer from the dark depths of the cave's tunnels.

He grit his teeth, finally snapping out of his sleepy daze. He struggled to stand, having to support himself by holding onto a large rock nearby. He flinched, accidentally grazing his bleeding wound against the rough stone. 'Light.. Must be another Charmander...' He felt panic set in, not knowing what to expect. He was lucky enough to escape a battle from one of the small lizards when he entered, but in his state, he doubted he'd be able to dodge their firey attacks again.

As it drew closer, the Scraggy decided to hide behind the rock, making use of his dominant dark typing to blend into the shadows. Peeking towards the source of the light, the Scraggy mustered a Leer, his eyes releasing a glint in the darkness. If ever the pokemon was a threat, he could use the shadows to escape, but if he failed, he could at least hold an advantage.

Even with the musical rain, Peter didn't know what to do. Should he head back the other way? No, otherwise he'd end up at Rainfront Town. He couldn't bear failure and head back. But, if he went in deeper, surely there'd be dangerous Pokemon. Peter clearly didn't have a plan for this situation. Peter looked over to the nearest rock and tried to memorize it. Jagged, large and had red paint on it...

No, that was blood.

Peter gasped at the realization. There could be a monster lurking in the darkness, one who lusts meat! He was shaking again. He didn't note if the blood was fresh or not. What if the monster was near... What if it was here?

Just behind the rocks, Peter saw a pair of eyes shining. It startled him, perhaps too much. Peter jumped at the sight and clumsily fell because he landed on his left foot unexpectedly. He fell to the ground and backed up, letting out a scream. His eyes were wide, staring back at the glaring eyes.

"PLEASE LEAVE ME ALOOONE!" Peter begged. He didn't mean to scream like that, it was absolutely unexpected.

"PLEASE LEAVE ME ALOOONE!"

Mordred definitely didn't expect that. The sudden scream nearly caused him to let go of the rock and fall over as well, but he was able to hold his grip. He shook his head, still a bit shocked from the pokemon's wail. Peeking past the rock, he managed to catch sight of a familiar monkey-like pokemon. A Chimchar. The Scraggy hadn't seen one since he left his clan. But this one was definitely not like the one he'd met.

Staying silent for a few minutes, the Scraggy contemplated on whether or not he should leave his hiding place and face the Chimchar. He didn't mean to make the pokemon scared. A feral pokemon would definitely not react like that, making it clear that the Chimchar was far from harmless. The look of utter fear in the fire pokemon's eyes confirmed that.

Mordred frowned, finding his thoughts conflicted. What if it was a trick? It's possible this pokemon would attack him after scaring it like that. Gulping down some spit, the Scraggy spoke out, still hidden in the darkness.

"Who are you?" He asked, making his voice as ominous and intimidating as he could in order to prevent the pokemon from lashing out at him. Even the slightest hint of weakness could prove risky. "What are you doing here?"

PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 9:27 am

All that Peter was thinking was that he was going to die. He was going to be killed by a Pokemon or whatever it was. His breaths became short and sharp as his heart raced. But, the "monster didn't attack." Peter found himself unable to move from the spot and unable to think logically. Maybe it was just something shiny reflecting from the light. No, it just spoke.

Was it really safe enough to tell this creature who Peter was? But, his mouth disobeyed Peter's mind and stuttered "P-Peter. I-I-I'm h-h-heading t-to Gr-Grassveil Town..." The creature sounded like one of those murderers from the stories Peter read, or at least how he'd imagine them to be. Dark, forceful and spooky. Now he was dealing with one.

"P-Please don't kill me, I beg you!" Peter wept. He knew that tears wouldn't work against monsters and murderers. He felt as if he was being a child, a stupid naive child who couldn't do anything for himself. Then again, right now, he couldn't do anything.

He WAS being a child.

As Peter opened his mouth, he discovered that he couldn't speak anything else by will. So, he closed it, waiting for the creature to strike. Maybe, he could roll out of the way and dash away. No, if the monster had spilled blood earlier on that rock, surely he couldn't get away.

"P-Peter. I-I-I'm h-h-heading t-to Gr-Grassveil Town..."

'A pokemon heading to Grassveil?' Mordred felt a pang of guilt hit him. He'd just scared a helpless pokemon heading to the same town he was looking for. It was no wonder a Chimchar of all pokemon would appear in such a cave. His guilt grew when he thought of the possibility that the Chimchar was planning to join the guild, seeing how it was one of the most popular reasons for pokemon to go to such a small town. And seeing how much of a wreck the pokemon in front of him seemed to be, it was obvious that there would be no chance the pokemon would be wandering such caves for a fight.

The Scraggy snapped out of his thoughts at the sound of weeping. His guilt doubled, now coupled with pity for the poor pokemon as it begged for its life. Mordred watched as tears slipped from the Chimchar's eyes, dribbling down its terrified face. The clear liquid hit the rock floor, with the Scraggy only watching in silence. It felt horrible to watch a pokemon cry in front of him, especially one with pure intentions. Yet, it felt fascinating in a way. The Scraggy had never seen a fire pokemon cry before.

Mordred mentally slapped himself at the thought. 'No! It's not the time to observe. I need to apologize!' He scolded himself. He took a deep breathe, letting the darkness slip away from him as he limped out from behind the rock. He stood a few paces away from the weeping pokemon, finding himself unable to come any closer to comfort them. The small hint of doubt lingered in his head, feeling unsure of revealing himself.

"Uh. Sorry about that." He said, voice losing its intimidation, returning to its usual awkward tone. It was slightly raspy from Mordred's thirst, but all in all sounded like any other pokemon's, albeit a tired one. "I didn't mean to scare you..." He muttered, looking at the Chimchar apologetically.

PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 10:16 am

At first, the creature was a monster who just slaughtered an unknown Pokemon but now, Peter could see that this wasn't a monster. In fact, it looked like a Scraggy, a wounded Scraggy. It all made sense now. As the tension calmed down, Peter could finally think. This Pokemon could have been just as scared as Peter was. He looked beaten up, but from what?

Peter found himself able to move again as he wiped the embarrassing tears off his face. He began to blush from his mistake. The Scraggy was definitely not a monster. Before Peter said anything, he sighed in relief.

"I-It's alright." Peter croaked, clearing out the bubble in his throat. "I-I should be sorry for being a baby." He somehow felt more safer now that he was near another Pokemon. Yet, Peter was shaking like a wet Poochyena and still took sharp breaths. The Scraggy looked worse, though.

What did this Pokemon go through anyway? From the pure red blood that crept out of the wounds the Scraggy had and all the scratches, it was clear that he was attacked by someone or something. Peter squinted to try and make out the Scraggy's face and only could notice that he was tired. How long was the Pokemon here for?

There's another good thing, Peter could think clearly now.

"Do you want a-any help?" Peter asked out suddenly. Yes, it was quite an obvious question. The Scraggy NEEDED some help. Peter could just turn around and could try to head back to Rainfront Town but... An Explorer would help any Pokemon in need, right?

Hiding from the Storm Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 10:32 am

"I-It's alright. I-I should be sorry for being a baby."

Mordred gave a half-hearted chuckle at the comment. In truth, if he were in Peter's place, he would've been twice as frightened and would've lashed out at the voice without even considering anything. With such reckless actions, the Chimchar would've definitely had better chances at surviving compared to him. Although, the crying was definitely something out of the Scraggy's memo.

The Scraggy noticed how the Chimchar seemed to be staring at him. Observing him, maybe? It was then he remembered that his body was covered in fresh injuries. He felt a bit ashamed of facing a helpless pokemon in such a state, knowing that he couldn't do much to protect the innocent passer-by. But he gave no mind to it, ignoring the painful sting he received when a small drop of water from the ceiling hit one of his injuries.

"Do you want a-any help?"

The edge of Mordred's mouth tugged up slightly. A half-hearted smile. Or a lazy smirk, depending on who was watching. He raised a hand, waving it passively. He didn't notice how it was covered in his blood, causing a few small drops to fall onto the floor. If he was able to survive for hours while fighting off groups of bats and ground pokemon, it was obvious that he could handle a few injuries. At least, for a while longer.

"Haha, nah... I'm pretty alright over here... Besides, it's an explorer's duty to help other pokemon... So I'm supposed to lead you out of here..." He said, feeling a swell of pride in his role. Although it was painful, he was willing to lead this Chimchar through the cave, even in such a state. The Guildmaster would definitely be disappointed in him if he let a few scrapes get in the way of his duties. Besides, it seemed like the Chimchar wouldn't last if he went on his own.

Peter flinched with astonishment. The Scraggy was an explorer. That would explain why he was here in the first place. But, Peter wasn't convinced that the Scraggy would be alright, though. He couldn't help but glance at the dripping blood.

"Well... Okay." Peter said with a weak smile. It was great to have someone experienced by your side but, what if Peter mucked up? The Scraggy wasn't looking quite well and was very weak, but admittedly, he must have been strong enough to survive in this state. Besides, Peter wouldn't last very long if he was by himself. In fact, Peter was grateful for the Scraggy's offer to help.

"What's your name, by the way?" Peter questioned.

"Mordred." The Scraggy replied, "Nice to meet you, Peter. Now up on your feet..." The Scraggy walked, with just a slight limp, towards the Chimchar. He got a hand, thankfully one without blood, and grabbed the Chimchar's arm, pulling him up to his feet. Once the Chimchar was standing, Mordred turned his attention to the direction the pokemon came from.

'Peter doesn't seem to be injured... It's possible he just entered from Rainfront... So that means that direction is to the entrance...' The Scraggy thought silently, trying to plan to avoid getting lost again. He turned his attention to the blood-covered rock, deciding it would be a good marker. They'd know they were going in circles if they came across it again.

He turned to the opposite tunnel, where he had just came from. The exit was there, but they had to be careful through the multiple tunnels and gaps, for those were the reasons why the Scraggy had gone in circles in the first place. But if he could keep a keen eye on his other 'markers', they would be able to leave this Arceus-forsaken cave in a matter of hours.

"Alright then. We'll start there. Keep on the look out for... more traces of blood." He said, both a reminder and a warning. The pokemon in these caves were wild and dangerous, definitely capable of spreading more blood than the Scraggy's, but Mordred hadn't seen or heard anyone during his agonizing stay, so he doubted there would be anyone else. If they could track down the scent of his injuries -as repulsive as it may be- they could find out where he made his mistakes.

Peter flinched and yanked back his arm as Mordred grabbed it. Peter shuddered from the contact and got up. "Sorry, I-I don't like being touched." He muttered softly. Peter cursed himself in his head for acting rudely. Father would have scolded him for not saying 'Don't do that'. Peter then tried to throw that thought of his father away. He shouldn't start thinking about him. Peter hesitated to reply to Mordred, but nodded.

"O-Okay." He smiled slightly, ready to follow Mordred. The Chimchar took a glance behind him and into the darkness. What if they were being hunted already? His tail could attract a lot of attention, and not to mention his screaming and begging earlier. Great, he thought. I just jinxed myself.

He began to hope that there was no such things as jinxes.

Hiding from the Storm Empty
PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 11:53 am

Mordred seemed a bit taken back at the reaction, but paid no mind to it. The Chimchar didn't like being touched, and the Scraggy didn't blame him. He actually felt embarrassed for trying to yank a pokemon he'd only just met. It was definitely rude, not to mention alarming. He was still a stranger to the Chimchar. A stranger who didn't leave much of a good first impression with the scare tactic he'd done.

The Scraggy led the Chimchar further into the darkness of the tunnels, having better sight thanks to his companion's flame. They were lucky, traveling at such a dark area without having encountered anything yet. They soon stumbled upon two tunnels, both leading to opposite directions. A faint stench of blood wafted in the forking, more powerful on the one leading to the right. They went to the left.

It was a mere few minutes before they spotted something move in the darkness. Mordred immediately shot a Leer at it, his eyes glinting the same way as he did earlier. The pokemon hiding in the darkness only stirred more uncontrollably, heading towards them. The Scraggy prepared to fight, foot already in position for a Low Kick.

This dice is not existing.

PostSubject: Re: Hiding from the Storm   Hiding from the Storm EmptySat Mar 16, 2013 12:16 pm

Peter didn't like this.

Not one bit.

Even with Mordred as company, he was pretty nervous. He was shivering with fear as each step only made him more worried. He could still hear the rain singing and thunder rumbling, but it was ever so faint. Peter tried to recall one of his favorite stories. The Ghost of the Zapdos. But, it didn't really help the situation. It only made Peter wonder if there was a murderer lurking in the shadows.

Now, his fear was confirmed. As the figure came closer threateningly, it was a large rock with a face, two pairs of arms and two feet. It was clearly a Graveler... Which was bad news. Peter tried to do a leer, but he was too startled to even cast a glare. Instead, Peter got ready to attack at any moment. He had to be strong if he was to become an Explorer. But, Peter was at a disadvantage and Mordred was beaten up. The Pokemon was a rock Pokemon and all Peter could do would be scratching.

Thus, he hated being a Fire Pokemon.
